What to look for before adding a supplemental benefits program
Supplemental benefits programs vary widely, and the details matter more than the pitch. A few questions worth asking before adding one:
Who is actually covered? Some programs only extend to employees already enrolled in the primary health plan — which leaves out exactly the group most likely to need support.
Where does the funding come from? If a program requires new spend from the business or reduces an employee's paycheck, run the math carefully against what it delivers.
How fast can it go live? Programs that require a full plan-year cycle to implement delay value for a year. Look for compliant, payroll-integrated options that can start within a normal payroll cycle.
Is it easy to explain? If you can't describe the program to an employee in one or two sentences, it's going to be a support burden for HR after launch.
Expand your benefits, modeled toward zero net cost.
Savings are modeled to begin as early as your first payroll period, based on your company's specific numbers.
